Emptio declinationis excessiva
Clinical description

Patient, upon seeing any crypto asset fall by more than 8%, deploys additional capital. Has done this four times this month on the same asset, which has continued to fall after each purchase. Patient's average entry price is, somehow, higher than the current price despite every 'buy the dip' being at a lower price. The math suggests a flaw in either the strategy or the theory of gravity. Patient is reviewing the theory.

Prognosis

Chronic. Each dip is framed as 'the' dip, not 'a' dip.

Recommended treatment

None. 'DCA' is, apparently, a defense against any argument.

What is this?

Patients diagnosed with Compulsive Buy-the-Dip Over-Deployment present with a cluster of recognizable behaviors we have, on reflection, decided to name. The condition is fictional. The behaviors, unfortunately, are not. Someone in your life is showing at least two of them right now.

The Institute's taxonomic entry lists it as Emptio declinationis excessiva, a binomial coined in-house and used nowhere in the peer-reviewed literature.
